Netflix’s aggressive push into video podcasts has a launch date.
The streamer has set a premiere date to launch The Bill Simmons Podcast, seemingly its first video podcast launch since it unveiled a shift in strategy earlier this year.
The show will premiere on Sunday, January 11. It will stream live on Sundays from 11:30pm ET, after NBC’s Sunday Night Football, which Simmons and his colleague “Cousin” Sal Iacono often recap at the start of the episode.
After Simmons’ Sunday night live stream, each episode will be available on the service, Spotify and other podcast platforms. But not YouTube. All other episodes will be available on Netflix on-demand.
In the spring, after the NFL season, Simmons will be joined by Zach Lowe to cover the NBA.
The Bill Simmons Podcast is produced by Spotify-owned The Ringer. The company will also be responsible for a number of other video podcasts coming to Netflix. These include The Ringer Fantasy Football Show, The Zach Lowe Show, The McShay Show, Fairway Rollin’, The Mismatch, The Ringer F1 Show, The Ringer NFL Show and The Ringer NBA Show, culture and lifestyle shows The Rewatchables, The Big Picture, The Dave Chang Show, The Recipe Club and Dissect and true-crime titles Conspiracy Theories and Serial Killers.
The streamer has also struck deals with Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports, which will contribute shows including Pardon My Take, The Ryen Russillo Podcast, and Spittin Chiclets, as well as iHeartMedia, which will stream series such as Charlamagne tha God’s The Breakfast Club, My Favorite Murder and Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea.
