David Harbour has spoken publicly about his ex-wife Lily Allen following the release of her breakup album West End Girl, which is widely believed to reference the end of their marriage.
In an interview with Variety, Harbour said he respected Allen’s decision to turn personal experiences into music, calling it an artistic privilege. “It was weird,” he said, adding that artists are free to draw from their real lives when creating art. He emphasized that he understands and respects her creative process.
Allen released West End Girl last year, shortly after the couple’s separation, with many fans interpreting the album as reflecting the breakdown of their relationship. The record includes themes of emotional conflict and heartbreak, though Allen has said it was written as she was processing her feelings rather than as an act of revenge.
Harbour, however, declined to go into detail about the breakup itself, stressing that he values privacy in his personal life despite public attention. He said he prefers not to comment further on the situation, noting that private relationships deserve respect.
Allen has also spoken about the album, saying it reflects real emotions she experienced during a difficult period but that her feelings have since changed. She explained that writing the album helped her process the breakup and that she does not currently feel anger or resentment toward her ex-husband.
The pair were married from 2020 until their separation in 2024 and share a blended family from previous relationships. Allen has since said she has moved forward and no longer holds negative feelings about the past.
Despite the breakup, both have continued focusing on their careers, with Harbour involved in new film and television projects and Allen continuing her music work.
