“I demand a single grace from you. If you are not to award me love, then I will indulge in rage.” That’s the chilling directive from the creature in Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein, revealed in a new trailer today and it’s one we’d do well to heed.
The Netflix project comes from the visionary behind Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, and it stars Jacob Elordi as Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s creation a being cobbled together from body parts taken from others, as originally told in Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic.
The trailer makes it clear that rage will be a central theme. From bloody screams to gun-wielding soldiers and even a castle in flames, chaos is everywhere. But del Toro’s monster is more than fury; it’s a study in tragic beauty.
Joining Elordi are Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth as Frankenstein’s childhood sweetheart, and Christoph Waltz in a new role as an arms dealer. The cast also includes Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, del Toro described Elordi’s monster not as terrifying, but as “staggeringly beautiful, in an otherworldly way.” He elaborated: “Victor is as much an artist as he is a surgeon, and if he’s been dreaming about this creature for all his life, he’s going to nail it. It looks like a newborn, alabaster creature. The scars are beautiful and almost aerodynamic.”
Del Toro also praised Elordi’s performance, noting that he “brought a truth to this performance that’s really something to behold.”
Frankenstein premieres in theaters October 17, 2025, and streams globally on Netflix November 7, 2025. Fans can expect a haunting, visually stunning, and emotionally intense reimagining of a literary classic.
