Surprise! Serena and Venus Williams are teaming up once again for the US Open.
With a last-minute wild card entry, the sister duo will play women’s doubles at the 2026 US Open, the tournament organizers announced on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
“Serena and Venus Williams will receive a wild card entry into the 2026 US Open Women’s Doubles Championship, as the USTA announced US Open women’s and men’s doubles wild cards today,” the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said in a statement.
Serena, 44, and Venus, 46, have won the women’s doubles title at the US Open twice, in 1999 and 2009, and 12 more times at the three other Grand Slams.

They had planned to make their return to Grand Slam doubles at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, but were forced to withdraw after Serena sustained a knee injury while playing in the singles tournament, her first Grand Slam match since 2022.
Serena, who will turn 45 at the end of September, said in an Instagram post on July 4 that she was “heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles” when she pulled out of Wimbledon. She added, “Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside Venus once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete.”
The sisters played doubles at the 2026 Cincinnati Open on Aug. 17, their first match together since 2022. They lost in the first round to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.
