Olympic skier and gold medalist Bode Miller speaks out on arrest for drug possession

The athlete last competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Olympic skiing legend Bode Miller has addressed his recent arrest in Idaho after being charged with two misdemeanor offenses related to drug possession.

According to reports, Miller was arrested on June 6 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The former Olympic gold medalist later shared a statement on social media explaining his version of events.

Miller said he was stopped by law enforcement while passing another vehicle on a highway in Idaho. He claimed that a friend traveling with him was carrying a small amount of cannabis and a pipe, adding that he was unaware the items were in his companion’s possession.

In his statement, Miller emphasized that he fully cooperated with authorities and expressed hope that the charges would be dismissed once all the facts are reviewed.

Following the arrest, he was released after posting a $5,000 cash bond. Court records indicate that he pleaded not guilty to both charges and is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on July 29.

Miller is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished alpine skiers in history. During his career, he earned multiple Olympic medals and numerous World Cup victories, including a gold medal in the Alpine Combined event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Since retiring from professional competition, Miller has focused on family life with his wife, Morgan Beck Miller, and their children. The couple has also become advocates for water safety following the tragic loss of their daughter Emeline, who died in a drowning accident in 2018 at the age of 19 months.

Just weeks before his arrest, Miller and his wife appeared on television to discuss the importance of teaching children water safety skills from an early age.

The legal proceedings surrounding the charges remain ongoing, and no final decision has been made in the case.
