Every new movie coming to Netflix this summer

Jennifer Lopez, John Cena, Kevin Hart, and Adam Scott lead the streamer’s summer movie slate.

Hotly anticipated films like The Odyssey, Jackass: Best and Last, and Disclosure Day are set to light the box office aflame this summer, but those who prefer the comfort of their own couches will also have plenty to watch on streaming.

Netflix, in particular, has several original films in its summer lineup, from rom-coms and psychological thrillers to a stop-motion dark fairytale. The streamer’s slate is headlined by a star-studded lineup including J-Lo, Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, Greta Lee, Kevin Hart, John Cena, Millie Bobby Brown, and more.

Office Romance

This new rom-com stars pop icon Jennifer Lopez and Ted Lasso breakout Brett Goldstein as a CEO and her new employee who get embroiled in a steamy workplace tryst with one another.

Director Ol Parker spoke highly of the chemistry between his two leads, telling Collider that “a few months before shooting, we all had lunch, and it was just the best of times, immediately — respect, trust, and laughter. Not for me, obviously. But for each other.”

The film also reunites Lopez with Edward James Olmos, who played her dad in Selena. The rest of the cast includes Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman), Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), and Tony Hale (Veep).

Mexico 86

Mexico 86 takes a humorous look at the real-life story of an audacious Mexican bureaucrat who conned his way into securing Mexico’s bid to host the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

The movie dramatizes a stranger-than-fiction ordeal orchestrated by Martín de la Torre (Diego Luna), who utilized highly unorthodox methods in order to get Mexico to host the tournament. 

“My character is fictional but many of the things that happened in the film are things we read about and we know, or that we heard that happened,” Luna told Deadline in April. “We fictionalized everything, but many of the characters are based on those who were around at the time.”

I Am Frankelda

While you wait for the release of Laika Studios’ gorgeous new film Wildwood, be sure to check out the enchanting-looking I Am Frankelda on Netflix. The dark fantasy musical acts as a prequel to the Mexican TV series Frankelda’s Book of Spooks, and is notable for being the first stop-motion film fully produced in Mexico.

I Am Frankelda takes place in 19th-century Mexico, where talented writer Frankelda (Mireya Mendoza) finds that the creatures she’s concocted in her mind are becoming very real. When the universe goes out of wack, Frankelda must team up with a prince (Arturo Mercado Jr.) to restore balance to the worlds of reality and make-believe.

Voicemails for Isabelle

Two rom-coms are better than one! Just a few weeks after Netflix debuts Office Romance, the streamer is releasing Voicemails for Isabella starring Zoey Deutsch and Nick Robinson.

The movie follows Jill, a San Francisco native grappling with her sister’s death by leaving voicemails on her phone as if she’s still alive. But when the number is reassigned, the messages end up in the ear of a Texas-based real estate agent. Thus begins an unconventional romance.

The stacked cast for Voicemails for Isabella includes Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage, and Harry Shum Jr.

Little Brother

Comedy heavyweights collide in this buddy comedy starring John Cena and Eric Andre. Cena stars as a well-known real estate agent, Rudd, who receives an unexpected visit from his oddball “little brother” Marcus. Unfortunately, it seems the two men went their separate ways for a reason, as their reunion only invites a torrent of chaos.

Little Brother is directed by Matt Spicer, who previously helmed excellent indie comedies like Ingrid Goes West and Flower.

Speaking with Extra, Cena admitted he had a tough time keeping a straight face around Andre: “He has an incredible sense of humor.”

Chris & Martina: The Final Set

Tennis rivals Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert sparred on the court for almost two decades before they were both diagnosed with cancer at the same time.

Chris & Martina: The Final Set is a documentary about the athletes’ groundbreaking careers and their late-in-life struggles with mortality and resilience, featuring archival footage, interviews, and exclusive behind-the-scenes material.

Enola Holmes 3

Everyone’s favorite (and only) Sherlock Holmes sister returns in the third installment of the Enola Holmes franchise. The threequel sees our titular detective (played by Millie Bobby Brown) heading to Malta, where she encounters her most complicated case yet.

Speaking with Tudum, Brown expressed her excitement for the newest chapter in her character’s life. “She’s built something for herself, which is amazing, but she’s also questioning what she wants next,” the actress explained. “I think that’s something so many people can relate to. There’s this pressure of, ‘Ok, I’ve achieved this…but who am I now?’” 

Brown will be reunited with Enola Holmes stars Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Emmy-nominated actor Himesh Patel joins the cast.

72 Hours

72 Hours is a new comedy from Tim Story, director of Barbershop (2002) and The Blackening (2022). Kevin Hart leads the cast as a middle-aged man who is accidentally added to the group chat for a wild bachelor party. Looking to reinvigorate his life and career, he joins them for their three-day bacchanal.

The stacked cast includes Saturday Night Live cast members Marcello Hernández and Ben Marshall, as well as Severance’s Zach Cherry, Scream’s Mason Gooding, One Battle After Another breakout Teyana Taylor, and the GOAT Andy Garcia.

The Last House

Following his Best Actor nomination for The Secret Agent (2025)Wagner Moura stars alongside Greta Lee in this sci-fi horror film from Now You See Me (2013) director Louis Leterrier.

The Last House centers on a married couple and their two kids who suddenly find themselves trapped inside their own home with no way out. Together, they must fight to survive amid dwindling resources and the mysterious terror keeping them imprisoned.

Leterrier described his film as “an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”

The Ribbon Hero

The Ribbon Hero is an upcoming Japanese anime film from first-time director and longtime animator Yūki Igarashi. Based on the 1953 manga Princess Knight by Osamu Tezuka, The Ribbon Hero tells the story of a lone hero who makes the dangerous choice to defy his destiny.

Speaking about the film, Igarashi paid tribute to those who made it possible. “For this film,” he told Tudum. “I poured in my respect for Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Princess Knight; for Ichizo Kobayashi of the Takarazuka Revue, which lies at the root of the work; and for the supreme, classic entertainment they brought into the world. They also created their works while overcoming hardships such as infectious diseases and war, and those works became the very foundation of our culture.”

A Child of My Own

A Child of My Own is an ambitious hybrid of fiction and documentary a dramatization of a real-life incident that caused a tabloid frenzy in Mexico in the 2000s.

The story concerns a young woman named Alejandra (Ana Celeste), who feels pressured into faking a pregnancy. Director Maite Alberdi playfully delves into Alejandra’s true story by blending fiction and reality, capturing what happened when a simple lie spiraled into something bigger than Alejandra could control.

Don’t Say Good Luck

The official synopsis for Julia Hart’s Don’t Say Good Luck is short and sweet: “Sophie Birenbaum (Sunny Sandler) is ready for the spotlight as the lead in her high school musical until suddenly she’s living with even more drama at home than on the stage.”

That brief description keeps things pretty vague, but judging by the cast and creative talent behind the project, we’re anticipating some warm-hearted family fun.

The film is produced by Adam Sandler, who continues undaunted on his quest to make his two daughters, Sunny and Sadie, into stars. Flanking Sunny is a cast of familiar faces: Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Max Greenfield (New Girl), and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), to name a few.

The Whisper Man

With Hokum under his belt and The Whisper Man forthcoming, it seems like Adam Scott was bitten by the horror bug — specifically, starring in horror films where he plays a writer?

The Whisper Man is based on the bestselling 2019 novel by Alex North and follows a crime writer searching for his kidnapped son. When he teams up with his retired detective father (Robert De Niro), the two uncover a disturbing connection to an old serial killer known as the Whisper Man.

New Zealand director James Ashcroft made a splash back in 2021 with his debut feature Coming Home in the Dark, and he’s working with some heavy hitters for his follow-up. In addition to De Niro and Scott, The Whisper Man cast includes Michelle Monaghan, Hamish Linklater, and Owen Teague.
