Speaking publicly for the first time since the murders, John spoke about how he still speaks to his family every day, and said they had lived a life of “complete happiness.”

He told the BBC: “From the moment I wake up, I say good morning to each of them.”

“Sometimes I say out loud to Hannah and Louise, ‘girls, sorry I can’t be with you, I’m with your mum at the moment.’”

“As I close my eyes at night, I chat to them as well. They’re very close to me all the time.”

John and his daughter Amy had decided to speak out now, a year after the murders, because they do not want to be defined by the death of their family.

They also said how initial reporting of the crimes was inaccurate, and added to their grief.

“I want to breathe life back into my mum, Hannah and Louise as fully-rounded people,” Amy added.

Elsewhere in the emotional interview, John spoke about how Hannah’s quick thinking and bravery saved his life that evening.

John explained that in her final moments, Hannah was couragesly able to send a warning text to her boyfriend, to alert John and her sister Amy.

“I get to live. Hannah gave me that, and I’ve got to treat it as a gift from her,” he said.

“Police officers of 30 years’ experience had their breath taken away by how brave she was, how she was able to think so clearly in that moment, to know what she needed to do,” her father said.

“I have said many, many times, her doing that has given me life. And I’ve used that to re-ground myself on a daily basis.”

On the evening of July 9, 2024, Louise’s ex-boyfriend Kyle Clifford showed up at their house and convinced her mother Carol that he was there to drop off belongings left by her daughter.

As the family had never suspected any signs of abuse or aggression from Kyle, Carol allowed him to enter the house.

Kyle then stabbed Carol to death, amd waited an hour for Louise to return home, restraining and raping her, before murdering her with a crossbow.

A short time later, Hannah returned from work and was murdered by the same crossbow that had killed her family.

Kyle was sentenced to three whole-life orders for the horrific crime.
