Lenny Kravitz is alive and well. The rock star’s team has shut down viral rumors claiming the 62-year-old singer was killed in a private jet crash in Palm Beach County, Florida, over the weekend.
This story was also reported by Variety.
“The reports are untrue and incorrect,” Kravitz’s team told TMZ on Monday, November 2, after false claims about the “American Woman” singer spread quickly across social media.
How the rumor started
The speculation began after a Learjet 60 went down in a residential area of Palm Beach County on Sunday, November 1, killing all nine people on board. The jet crashed near Military Trail in Greenacres, about eight miles from Mar-a-Lago, and the trailer park where it came down has been evacuated.
According to TMZ, online sleuths wrongly identified a woman as the jet’s pilot. She had previously shared a photo showing she once flew Kravitz on a similar route, and social media users took that post as “proof” that the musician had been on the doomed flight.
The woman has since posted a statement on TikTok saying she was not the pilot, and asked people to stop speculating and spreading misinformation.
Investigation underway
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash and was on the scene early Monday. Officials have not yet released a full passenger list, and authorities say the crash site could stay off-limits for several days.
Kravitz isn’t the only star caught up in the confusion. Local outlet BocaNewsNow reported that a separate rumor tying another famous name to the flight was also false.
For fans, the message from Kravitz’s camp is clear: the four-time Grammy winner was not on the plane, and anyone sharing the claim online should stop.
