Chrissy Teigen is explaining why she chose to be open about her experience using Ozempic.
Speaking at Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event on Saturday, Oct. 11, the 39-year-old model and author shared that her decision to talk publicly about the medication came after the emotional aftermath of a miscarriage. She said she wanted to stay true to her long-standing commitment to honesty and transparency with her followers even when it comes to difficult topics.
“Since the beginning of social media, I’ve always wanted people to understand that things aren’t as perfect or beautiful as they might appear,” Teigen said. “I knew being open would connect with people and hopefully help them feel better about their own lives and bodies.”
She explained that it can be “frustrating” when others hide their struggles online, and that she’s tried to create a space where people can see both the highs and lows of her life.
Teigen first revealed that she tried Ozempic, a GLP-1 medication, after struggling to lose weight following the loss of her son, Jack, in 2020. She recalled the painful period after the miscarriage, describing how her body felt “stuck” and how difficult it was to face the physical reminders of a pregnancy that had ended too soon.
“I really let myself indulge when I was pregnant,” she shared. “After losing the baby at 20 weeks, I was left with about 40 extra pounds that made me feel uncomfortable and I was also deeply depressed seeing a pregnant belly with no baby in it.”

By speaking openly about her experience, Teigen hopes to model honesty for her four children, whom she shares with husband John Legend. She wants them to know that it’s okay to be transparent about insecurities and choices related to their bodies.
“I’d want my daughter, Luna or even Miles, if one day he wants to do something like hair plugs to understand that it’s not about pretending to be perfect,” she said. “It’s about being honest about what makes you feel like your best self.”
She added that true fulfillment doesn’t come from striving for perfection. “People will always make their own choices about what helps them feel healthy and confident,” Teigen said. “Everyone has the right to do what makes them feel safe and proud of who they are.”
Despite her openness, Teigen admitted that she still faces constant public scrutiny over her appearance. “One week people ask if I’m pregnant, and the next week they criticize me for being too thin,” she said. “You just can’t win.”
Her conclusion? Say what you feel anyway. “Once you realize you’ll never please everyone, it becomes freeing you might as well speak your truth,” she said.
