Britney Spears Deactivates Instagram Account After Series of Concerning Posts

Pop star Britney Spears has apparently deactivated her Instagram account, which had been active for about 12 years under the handle @britneyspears. Visitors to the page are now met with an error message stating, “The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed.” However, her account on X (formerly Twitter) remains active.

The disappearance of Spears’ Instagram profile follows a series of posts she made in response to her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s new memoir, You Thought You Knew, released in October. In the book, Federline recounts their volatile relationship, from their 2004 marriage to their 2007 divorce, and makes several troubling allegations including that Spears once watched their children sleep while holding a knife, drank during pregnancy, and used cocaine while breastfeeding.

Spears refuted these claims on X, accusing Federline of “constant gaslighting” and calling his statements “extremely hurtful and exhausting.” She wrote that the “white lies” in his book were financially motivated, adding, “They are going straight to the bank, and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”

In a follow-up post, Spears reflected on her feelings of being exploited and misunderstood, writing, “To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain. Oh dear Jesus, show me there is a God and I can too be loved unconditionally and not have to be so perfect.”

She further criticized Federline’s public remarks, writing, “I 100 percent beg to differ the way he is literally attacking me in his interviews. … No money from Britney for 5 years, you trying to get paid, that’s what general America is saying. … Your kids are adults, it’s a different world now. … Why is HE SO ANGRY?”

A representative for Spears stated that Federline and others are attempting to profit from her now that child support payments have ended. According to the rep, Spears’ main concern remains the well-being of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, amid the renewed public scrutiny.

In recent weeks, fans had expressed concern about Spears’ Instagram posts, particularly one from October 7 showing bruises and bandages on her arms and wrists, which she attributed to a fall down the stairs at a friend’s home. Later, she suggested that she might have suffered brain damage during her 13-year conservatorship. At this time, it remains unclear whether Spears personally deactivated her Instagram account or if Meta took the action.
