Selma Blair arrested after Delta flight to New York
Selma Blair, 54, was detained by police at JFK Airport around 11 p.m. Sunday, after her Delta flight from Los Angeles reached the gate. According to the Port Authority, Blair and one flight attendant were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Prosecutors allege that the Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star injured two flight attendants during the flight. They also allege she kicked a police officer while he was securing her to a stretcher, and kicked a nurse at the hospital. She was arraigned late Monday in Queens on two counts of second-degree assault and pleaded not guilty through her lawyer. Bail was set at $20,000 cash or a $60,000 bond, and her next hearing is in January. An anonymous federal official told reporters the FBI has also issued a federal assault notice related to the flight.
Her attorney, Shawn Barnes, told the court her actions were not intentional. He said she had missed several doses of a medication that controls severe neurological symptoms and had hit her head during the flight. Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and has since become a prominent disability-rights advocate. Delta said it “has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior.”
Kelly Clarkson vs. a Brooklyn shop: the $15,000 bird dispute
A five-minute shopping trip has become one of the internet’s most talked-about feuds. On Saturday, Kelly Clarkson posted on X that staff at Art of Play, a small curiosity shop in Brooklyn Heights, treated her as if she couldn’t afford anything. Her post has passed 42 million views.
The store answered that Clarkson had asked about “Molly,” a mechanical bird fixed to the wall that is used in the shop’s magic shows and isn’t for sale. Clarkson replied on Sunday, calling the store “rude” and a “liar.” She said she saw a $15,000 price tag and was told the bird was for sale. In a second statement on Monday, Art of Play said the $15,000 price was for a near-identical bird by Seattle artist Bliss Kolb. It also said staff offered her a $2,000 alternative and that it has reached out to her privately to “clear the air.” The shop’s Yelp rating has since dropped to 2.8 stars, though some people, including John Hodgman, have defended it.
