New TV shows to watch this week

A new week means a fresh lineup of shows ready to hit the screen. From exciting premieres to returning favorites and hidden streaming gems, there’s plenty to explore. Whether the mood calls for drama, comedy, or something easy to binge, this week’s TV picks offer the perfect excuse to settle in and start watching.

DTF St. Louis

The dark comedy series follows Clark Forrest (Jason Bateman), a bored local weatherman, and Floyd Smernitch (David Harbour), a sign-language interpreter who meet during a chaotic storm broadcast. Both men feel stuck in unhappy middle-aged lives and unsatisfying marriages, which leads them to form an unlikely friendship.

Looking for excitement, they secretly join an affair-focused dating app called “DTF St. Louis.” What begins as a reckless attempt to spice up their lives quickly turns messy. Floyd’s marriage to Carol (Linda Cardellini) is already strained due to financial struggles and family tension, and things become even more complicated when Carol and Clark develop a flirtatious connection.

The story takes a darker turn when a dead body appears, shifting the show into a mystery. Detective Donoghue Homer (Richard Jenkins) and special crimes officer Jodie Plumb (Joy Sunday) investigate the case, uncovering secrets, affairs, and hidden motives among the characters. As timelines jump back and forth, the investigation slowly reveals how the characters’ decisions and relationships led to the crime.

Blending dark humor with suspense, the series explores themes of midlife dissatisfaction, temptation, and the consequences of chasing excitement at the cost of honesty.

How to watch: New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and stream simultaneously on HBO Max.

Three Women

Three Women follows the lives of three different women whose personal and romantic struggles are explored by a writer, Gia Lombardi (Shailene Woodley). She travels across the United States to document their stories about love, desire, and the complicated choices they make in their relationships.

One of the women, Lina (Betty Gilpin), is a suburban housewife trapped in a loveless marriage who reconnects with an old boyfriend in search of emotional and physical fulfillment. Sloane (DeWanda Wise) is a confident entrepreneur in an open marriage, but her seemingly controlled lifestyle begins to reveal deeper insecurities. Maggie (Gabrielle Creevy), a college student, becomes involved in a controversial relationship with her high school teacher, leading to a public scandal and legal battle.

As Gia listens to and records their experiences, the series explores themes of intimacy, trauma, power, and self-discovery. Over time, the women confront the consequences of their choices while trying to understand their own desires and identities.

Overall, Three Women is a character-driven drama about how different women navigate love, sex, and personal freedom, showing how their stories intersect with broader questions about relationships and autonomy.

How to watch: All 10 episodes of Three Women are streaming on Starz.

The Bride!

The Bride! is a 2026 Gothic romance‑horror drama written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein. It reimagines the classic monster tale from the Bride’s perspective, blending romance, horror, and wild, punk‑energy storytelling.

The film is set in 1930s Chicago. Frankenstein’s lonely monster (called “Frank,” played by Christian Bale) asks the brilliant scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to help him create a companion. When they reanimate a murdered woman named Ida (Jessie Buckley), she becomes The Bride — a fierce, outspoken, and unpredictable figure.

Unlike traditional Frankenstein stories, this version follows The Bride’s transformation from death to life and then into a fiery, rebellious force who rejects suppression and fights back against violence. Her relationship with Frank turns into a combustible romance that quickly spirals into chaos, murder sprees, and outlaw‑style tendencies as they become fugitives on the run.

A detective, Jake Wiles (Peter Sarsgaard), and his assistant Myrna Mallow (Penélope Cruz) pursue the pair, adding a crime‑chase element to the story.

How to watch: The Bride! is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Heel

Heel (originally known as Good Boy on the festival circuit) is a dark British thriller that twists the home‑invasion trope into something psychological and unsettling.

The story follows Tommy (Anson Boon), a violent and reckless 19‑year‑old who lives for drugs, parties, and chaos. One night after a bender, he’s abducted by a stranger and wakes up chained in the basement of an isolated suburban home.

The people holding him are Chris (Stephen Graham) and his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough), a seemingly normal middle‑class couple with an eerie calm. Along with their young son Jonathan, they intend to “rehabilitate” Tommy — forcing him through brutal mind games, punishments, and manipulations in a warped attempt to turn him into a “better” person.

As the story unfolds, the film becomes less about straightforward violence and more about power, control, psychological torment, and warped family dynamics. Tommy must decide whether to comply with their bizarre interventions or fight for his freedom, all while the couple’s own motives and morality are slowly revealed.

Directed by Jan Komasa and featuring intense performances from Graham and Riseborough, Heel balances dark humor, psychological intensity, and disturbing social commentary.

How to watch: Heel is now available to rent or buy on Apple TV, Prime Video and other VOD platforms.
