New movies to watch this weekend

Welcome to another edition of women’s world today, a weekly guide to all the new movies.

A new weekend brings a fresh wave of movies worth adding to your watchlist. From big-screen releases and streaming premieres to hidden gems you might have missed, there’s something for every mood whether it’s action, drama, comedy, or something easy and feel-good. Perfect for a cozy night in or a full-on movie marathon, these picks make it easy to just press play and enjoy

Faces of Death

Faces of Death is a dark satirical horror film that reimagines the infamous 1978 mondo-style movie for the modern internet age. It follows a content moderator, played by Barbie Ferreira, who comes across a series of disturbing videos that appear to recreate deaths from the original Faces of Death. As she investigates, she is pulled into a terrifying online mystery where she must determine whether the violence she’s seeing is staged, AI-generated, or happening in real time. The film uses this premise to explore how social media and algorithm-driven platforms have desensitized people to extreme content by blending it seamlessly with everyday, harmless posts, making it harder than ever to tell what is real. At its core, it is a critique of “everything is content” culture, where violent imagery spreads alongside makeup tutorials and lifestyle videos, numbing viewers through constant exposure.

How to watch: Faces of Death is now playing in theaters nationwide.

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a documentary-concert hybrid from Baz Luhrmann that continues his long-running fascination with Elvis Presley. The film draws on never-before-seen footage from Presley’s Las Vegas residency in the later part of his career, alongside rehearsal and behind-the-scenes clips that reveal a more relaxed, playful, and charismatic side of him offstage. These intimate moments give the documentary a feel similar to The Beatles: Get Back, showing Elvis not just as a legendary performer but as an endearing, almost goofy personality who clearly loved entertaining. The film highlights his extraordinary stage presence and reinforces his status as one of the greatest live entertainers of all time, while also exploring his unique connection with audiences during his peak performance years.

How to watch: EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is now available to rent or buy on Apple TVPrime Video and other VOD platforms.

The Bride!

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! is described as an ambitious but ultimately chaotic reimagining of Bride of Frankenstein that collapses under the weight of its own ideas. The film opens with Jessie Buckley as Mary Shelley, portrayed as a vengeful, almost supernatural presence who introduces the story and then possesses a 1930s flapper named Ida, who dies almost immediately. From there, the narrative becomes increasingly convoluted, with Buckley playing Ida as a split personality figure torn between herself and Shelley, a dynamic the review compares to “Gollum and Smeagol,” but in a way that feels more confusing than compelling. Christian Bale plays Frankenstein’s monster, who is given a more grounded emotional arc as a lonely figure searching for companionship, and his performance is singled out as one of the few effective elements in the film.

How to watch: The Bride! is now available to rent or buy on Apple TVPrime Video and other VOD platforms.

Thrash

Thrash is a disaster-thriller that follows a coastal town being destroyed by a Category 5 hurricane, which brings with it a deadly twist: sharks in the floodwaters. The story centers on a pregnant woman played by Phoebe Dynevor, alongside an ensemble of characters caught in the chaos as the storm overtakes the town. However, the review argues that the film feels heavily derivative, drawing obvious comparisons to the 2019 film Crawl, which features a nearly identical setup with alligators instead of sharks and is considered more effective in terms of tension and execution.

How to watch: Thrash is now streaming on Netflix.
