Savannah Guthrie officially returns to hosting Today after mom’s disappearance: ‘It’s good to be home’

Guthrie hasn’t appeared on “Today” in a full-time capacity since January, when her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home in Arizona.

After a harrowing two-month search for her missing mother, Today show host Savannah Guthrie has returned to work.

The morning TV icon made her first appearance back at Studio 1A in New York City on Monday, where she joined cohost Craig Melvin for her first live broadcast since January, when her mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, went missing ahead of a high-profile search for answers on her whereabouts.

“It is good to be home,” Guthrie told Melvin who confirmed he was happy to have her back.

Before diving into an update on the war in Iran, Guthrie — who wore a bright yellow dress and put on a brave face — added: “Here we go. Ready or not, let’s do the news.”

While Guthrie hasn’t appeared on a full-length Today installment since January, she recently sat for a tear-filled pre-taped interview with longtime colleague and former Today host Hoda Kotb, which aired on the morning show last week.

“Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony,” Guthrie told Kotb last week in the pre-taped interview, with both tearing up throughout the conversation.

“It’s unbearable,” Guthrie added. “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night, and in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. She needs to come home now.”

Guthrie’s mother was last seen at her home in Arizona on Jan. 31. Local authorities were previously able to obtain one piece of footage of a suspect removing Nancy’s doorbell camera in the early hours of Feb. 1.

In an interview in March, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos sheriff told local news station KOLD that investigators believe “something occurred” on Jan. 11 — a date preceding Nancy’s disappearance by about three weeks.

Nanos and his team have combed the area surrounding Nancy’s Tucson, Ariz., home, with the Guthrie family additionally upping an initial offered reward for Nancy’s return to $1 million.

A public information officer for the department previously told Entertainment Weekly that “investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI urged those with information to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Today airs weekdays on NBC.
